Water heating element – arc, power – 1.0 kW

One kilowatt is enough to warm a small tank slowly without loading the wiring, which is why this is the entry size of the arc line. The 10 mm tube is bent into a single arc with a threaded fitting welded to each leg; the fittings pass through two holes in the tank wall.

Check the old element before ordering: the centres of the two fittings should sit 65 mm apart, and each fitting is 14 or 16 mm across. From the fitting skirt to the bend the working zone runs 26.5 cm, plus or minus 5%, so the tank must have that depth to spare.

Stainless steel does not rust in water. Switch the element on only when it is fully submerged; run dry, it overheats within minutes.
