Water heating element – arc, 1.5 kW

A kilowatt and a half is for keeping water warm rather than boiling it: a small tank, a workshop cistern, anything fed from an ordinary socket. It heats slowly, and in return puts almost no strain on the circuit.

Upkeep is light. The 10 mm stainless steel tube does not rust, but in hard water scale still builds on it and blunts the heat transfer, so unscrew the element once a season and clean the deposit off without scratching the metal.

For matching: working length 31 cm within 5%, fittings 14 and 16 mm, 60 mm between their centres, terminals threaded M3. Switch on only when submerged.
